How to Deal with Cortisol

Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, can be lowered through laughing, crying, exercise, meditation, breathwork and artistic endevours.

So pick one.

The commonality here is getting out of our heads and into our bodies and imaginations. ⁣We need to do with our minds what we do with small children and cats to get them stop doing what we don’t want them to do… deflect toward something else (almost anything else) than the fact that we are feeling stressed… “Look at this over here! Isn’t this pretty?

Telling an infant or a cat to “Not do ____”, or getting angry, doesn’t work. We know this. Well, we, and our minds, are exactly the same. In fact, the image I have supplied above; if you are feeling anxious, stare at it for two minutes (set a timer so you are worrying about whether you have lasted two minutes) without thinking about anything else. Simply keep moving your eyes from left to right. Then after two minutes, notice how you feel.

Unhealthy thoughts create an unhealthy nervous system which creates an unhealthy body, which leads to more unhealthy thoughts. ⁣Then we begin to solidify. Physical tension ensues, and your body’s fascia begins to mold itself into an undesirable shape… which creates more physical tension, which makes us unhappy, and so on, and so on…

So flush this stuff out. ⁣

These activities move the energy by toning the vagus nerve and down-regulating the nervous system, therefore instantly altering your chemical makeup. ⁣Turn laughing, crying, exercise, meditation, breathwork, saying no and artistic endeavors into habits, your forward momentum will improve, and your life will change.

Keep it moving, folks...
